Class this year, I want to put the “fun” in fundamentals in reading! In the first semester, we will start with mastering our long and short vowel sounds. We will jump into learning letter blends and adding one or more letters, and just like that, we have children reading words! We will breeze into special sound memorization and application through analyzing words. For this program to be successful, we will need parents to help guide students to complete short work assignments throughout the week. I will be providing an easy-to-understand schedule each week. The plan is to have your children practice the special sounds throughout the week, and be able to eventually use them in real-time books that I will provide. The seconds semester, the children will be moving forward with more special sounds and learning syllables. This will include prefixes and suffixes. The students will become more confident spellers as they collect the knowledge from the lessons to apply in everyday reading. Homework is required and crucial for the success of your student becoming a confident reader and speller. It should only take about 15 minutes each day and will be assigned 3 or 4 days a week. I will also be available to answer any questions to help your child thrive as a reader and confident speller!
