Beginner Sewing
Beginner sewing. We will work on various projects during the semester such as a pillowcase and bag. Students will learn/practice basic sewing on a machine, sewing on buttons, and some hand sewing. No previous experience needed.

Biology
This class is typically a 9th or 10th grade high school class with heavy amounts of vocabulary. The students will gain an appreciation of the world around them as they discover the design of the simplest living things. This biology course covers the science and chemistry of life, ecology, cell structure and function, cellular energy, DNA, genetics, evolution, prokaryotes and viruses, protists and fungi, plant diversity and reproduction, plant structure and function, and the biology of various types of animals. Biology II: Anatomy and Physiology ( Advanced Biology)
"This course, combined with Biology I, is equivalent to one full year of college Biology and will familiarize students with solid College Level content. Prerequisites to this academically rigorous course are: Biology I.
The first module provides an organizational overview of the human body and homeostasis, as well as a general review of concepts such as: cell structure, protein synthesis, and cellular mitosis. Subsequent modules study: histology (study of tissues), integumentary and skeletal systems, skeletal system histology and movement, muscular system histology and physiology, nervous system, central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, endocrine system, cardiovascular system, lymphatic system, digestive system, respiratory system, urinary and reproductive systems.

This semester we will read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Students will need to begin reading before the semester begins. Foundations of Personal Finance
Curriculum by Ramsey Solutions known for Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. Students will learn the money skills they’ll use now and for the rest of their lives so they’ll have a solid foundation when they’re out on their own. This course trades boring formulas and financial theories for time-tested principles, real-life applications and humor (yes, personal finance can be fun!). Topics include how to budget, save, avoid debt, invest, be a wise consumer and much more! Phonics/Reading Instruction
This class will be designed either support your current reading program with enrichment and instruction or I will be using the Abeka phonics approach to teach reading and phonics. The Abeka program walks students through learning consenant sounds, short and long vowel sounds, teaching blends, three letter words, and then four letter words. Students will next learn phonics special sound charts and learn how to analyze words and sound them out. Students begin sounding out words and reading so quickly. We will work at your child's pace.

Worldwide Adventures with Flat Stanley
We will explore our country and our world as we follow Flat Stanley on his adventures! In class we will read aloud the original book by Jeff Brown and begin the Worldwide Adventures series. We will enrich our class with activities that teach us more about the locations in the books.
Each student will be encouraged to create their own Flat Stanley and send it to friends and relatives willing to take him/her on an adventure. We will follow all our Stanleys as they travel the world!
There is no weekly homework, but parents will be asked to approve (or help improve) the Stanley created in class the first week. While the teacher will provide postage, envelopes, and sample letters, parents will be responsible for sending Stanley to friends/relatives.

Yearbook
In this course, students will gain skills in the following areas: page design, publishing techniques, copywriting, editing, photography, graphic design, teamwork, and leadership skills. Students are responsible for producing their own yearbook pages which involves designing their own pages, taking the photographs for their pages, and writing all copy on their pages.
This class requires a full year commitment and is considered a pass/fail class for high school students. As long as your child participates and comes with a teachable spirit they should have no trouble passing. The class fee includes one free yearbook for each student who participates in both semesters of the school year.
