Course Description
Lights, camera, action! Join us for a semester of creativity, confidence-building, and theatrical fun as students learn the art of acting and storytelling while preparing for a live performance.
This hands-on theater class introduces students to the fundamentals of stage performance in a supportive and encouraging environment. Through theater games, improvisation, character development, movement activities, vocal exercises, and scene rehearsals, students will build confidence while learning the basics of acting.
No prior theater experience is required. Whether students are naturally outgoing or more reserved, every participant will be encouraged to grow in confidence, communication, creativity, and teamwork.
The semester will conclude with a live performance (approximately 20 minutes) for family and friends on November 13, immediately following regular co-op classes.
Every student will participate in the production. Students will provide their own costume and may be asked to contribute simple props. Class fees help cover scripts, larger props, set materials, and classroom activities.
Our goal is not to create perfect actors, but to help students develop confidence, responsibility, creativity, and the courage to step outside their comfort zone.

Class Expectations
Theater is a collaborative class where every student plays an important role in the success of the production. Students are expected to:
Participate fully in class activities.
Treat classmates with kindness and encouragement.
Be willing to try new things and take creative risks.
Respect the ideas and performances of others.
Come prepared with a positive attitude.
Follow stage directions and classroom expectations.
Demonstrate good sportsmanship during rehearsals and performances.

Attendance Expectations
Attendance is extremely important in theater.
Because every rehearsal builds upon the previous one, frequent absences make it difficult for both the student and the rest of the cast.
Students are expected to:
Attend class consistently.
Arrive on time and ready to participate.
Notify the instructor of planned absences whenever possible.
Review missed material and practice independently if absent.

Excessive absences may result in adjustments to casting or speaking roles to ensure the performance is successful for the entire class.

Memorization Expectations
Students are expected to learn and memorize their assigned lines according to the rehearsal schedule.
The goal is not perfection immediately but consistent progress throughout the semester.
Students should:
Practice lines at home several times each week.
Learn cues as well as their own dialogue.
Continue rehearsing outside of class when necessary.

Parents are encouraged to spend a few minutes listening to lines throughout the semester.

Homework Expectations
Homework is generally minimal but will include:
Memorizing lines.
Practicing blocking or movements.
Gathering costume pieces.
Bringing requested props.
Reviewing rehearsal notes.

As performance day approaches, students should expect to practice outside of class.

Performance Expectations
The live performance is considered the culmination of the semester.
Students are expected to:
Participate in the performance.
Arrive on performance day at the designated call time.
Wear the required costume.
Bring any assigned props.
Remain backstage unless instructed otherwise.
Stay for the entire performance.

Students should understand that theater is a team effort. Every cast member is important, regardless of the size of their role.

Costumes & Props
Students will be responsible for providing:
Their assigned costume.
Basic costume accessories.
Any simple props requested by the instructor.

Families will receive costume information well in advance of the performance.
The instructor will provide scripts, larger props, and any additional production materials.

Behavior Expectations
Students are expected to demonstrate professionalism appropriate for a rehearsal environment.
Students should:
Respect fellow actors.
Listen when others are rehearsing.
Encourage classmates.
Accept constructive feedback.
Follow stage directions promptly.
Care for classroom materials and props.
Use appropriate language at all times.

Disruptive behavior limits rehearsal time and affects the entire cast.

Questions regarding rehearsals, costumes, or performances are encouraged as early as possible.

Supplies Needed
Students should bring:
Water bottle
Pencil
Folder or binder for script
Highlighter (recommended)
Script (provided in class)

Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows movement during rehearsals.
Closed-toe shoes are recommended.

Skills Needed
No acting experience is required.
Students simply need a willingness to:
Participate
Work as part of a team
Learn from feedback

Be respectful
Encourage others
Try something new

Parent & Student Expectations
By enrolling in Theater, students are committing to being part of a cast. Every actor contributes to the success of the performance, and each student's preparation affects the entire group.
Student Expectations
Students are expected to:
Attend class consistently and arrive on time.
Participate fully in rehearsals and activities.
Memorize assigned lines by the required deadlines.
Practice outside of class as needed.
Bring scripts and materials to every class.
Respect directors, classmates, costumes, and props.
Encourage fellow cast members and contribute positively to the rehearsal environment.
Attend the final performance on November 13.
Provide their assigned costume and requested simple props.

Parent Expectations
Parents play an important role in helping students have a successful theater experience.
Parents are encouraged to:
Ensure regular attendance throughout the semester.
Help students practice lines at home.
Assist with gathering costume pieces and requested props.
Make the final performance a priority on the family calendar.
Encourage responsibility, preparation, and confidence.
Communicate any concerns or scheduling conflicts as early as possible.

Performance Day Expectations
Performance day is an exciting celebration of everything the students have learned throughout the semester.
Students should:
Arrive at the designated call time.
Come dressed in their assigned costume unless otherwise instructed.
Bring all required props.
Follow backstage expectations.
Support fellow cast members before and during the performance.
Stay until the performance has concluded and all cleanup responsibilities have been completed.

Parents are invited to attend and celebrate the students' hard work. Because the performance is the culmination of months of rehearsal, students are expected to participate unless prior arrangements have been discussed with the instructor.
